A Joyful Beginning: Consecrating Bishop Danny in the Seychelles

Sunday 3rd August 2025 saw a joyful and important milestone for the Diocese of Seychelles, as Venerable Danny Rolland Henry Elizabeth was consecrated and installed as its fifth Bishop. The service, held at St Paul’s Cathedral in Victoria, was filled with celebration and a deep sense of unity.

The Most Reverend Dr Gilbert Rateloson Rakotondravelo, Archbishop and Primate of the Province of the Indian Ocean, led the consecration, joined by seven fellow bishops from Madagascar and Mauritius. Their presence was a strong expression of provincial solidarity, as the Church in the Indian Ocean continues to grow in strength and shared mission.

Chris Hyliger, Relay Trust’s Regional Relationship Manager for the Province, attended the ceremony, accompanied by Revd Canon Charles Raven, Development Secretary of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches and former CEO of the Trust. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this new chapter in the Diocese’s life, while also reaffirming our commitment to walk alongside the Province.

The following day, Chris met with the bishops of the Indian Ocean to engage further in strategic planning conversations. At the heart of these discussions was a shared desire to see theological training flourish across the Province, a vision that Relay Trust is privileged to support.

Please pray for Bishop Danny as he begins his episcopal ministry, and for the wider Province as it seeks to deepen discipleship, strengthen leadership, and faithfully proclaim the Gospel across the islands.
