Election in Libombos

Last Saturday marked an important moment for the Anglican Church in Mozambique as the Diocese of Libombos gathered to elect a new bishop.

Church leadership matters. A bishop helps guide clergy and congregations, encourages faithful teaching, and supports the mission of the Church in local communities. In many parts of Africa, the Church plays a vital role not only in spiritual life but also in bringing people together, supporting families, and offering hope in difficult times.

We are delighted to share the encouraging news that Rev. Claudio Chitsonzo was elected as the new Bishop of Libombos.

The election was received positively, with a sense of thankfulness for the process and hope for the future. There is real encouragement that Bishop elect Claudio will lead with wisdom and a heart for partnership as he begins this new season of ministry.

Moments like these remind us that the life of the Church is built not only through programmes and plans, but through faithful leadership and people willing to serve. Leadership in the Church carries a quiet responsibility. It asks for patience, wisdom, humility, and a steady trust in God.

For many across Mozambique, this election marks a fresh chapter. There is joy in seeing the Diocese move forward and encouragement in knowing that God continues to raise up leaders for His Church.

We are especially grateful to all those who prayed in the days leading up to the election. Prayer is often unseen, yet it remains one of the most important ways we stand alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ. The support, encouragement, and faithful prayers of many people have been deeply valued during this time.

As Bishop elect Claudio Chitsonzo prepares to begin his ministry, please continue to pray for him. Pray for wisdom as he takes on new responsibilities, for strength in leadership, and for grace as he serves the people of Libombos.

Please also pray for the wider Church in Mozambique. May it continue to grow in faith, unity, and confidence in the Gospel. And may God bless Bishop elect Claudio as he begins this important work, leading with faithfulness and hope for the future.
