Develping Partnership with the GSFA
The Relay Trust has been privileged to be a Mission Partner of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA) since September 2023. We are honoured to walk alongside them as they support their member churches in the daily challenges of discipling their members in the modern world. We are now very pleased to announce two further developments in our partnership.
Daniel Magagnin Appointed as GSFA Track Facilitator
Daniel, our Regional Relationship Manager for IAMA, has been invited to become the GSFA Track Facilitator. At the First Assembly in Egypt (June 11th-15th 2024), the GSFA renewed its commitment to three activity Tracks; Missions Partnership, Economic Empowerment, and Leadership & Ministerial Formation. To enhance capacity, the Relay Trust will ‘lend’ Daniel for two days a week to serve as Track Facilitator, supporting the Track Chairs and working with the GSFA Chairman, Archbishop Justin Badi, to coordinate their urgently needed work.
The three tracks that Daniel will be supporting are complementary to our mission. The Relay Trust is dedicated to providing grassroots training in the poorest areas of the Anglican Communion with the aim that every Anglican congregation in these regions has an appropriately trained pastor capable of delivering biblically based teaching to transform lives. Because our Regional Relationship Managers regularly travel to partner dioceses and Provinces we are gaining a deep understanding of the wider challenges our brothers and sisters face, but we also realise that we do not have the calling or resources to meet all their needs and there is a real opportunity for the GSFA to fill this gap through the work of the Tracks.
Charles Raven Appointed as Advisor for Administration and Anglican Communion Affairs
Charles Raven, our CEO, has been invited to act as an Advisor on Administration and Anglican Communion Affairs to the GSFA’s Primates Council. He brings a seasoned theological perspective which arises from reflection on many years of ministry in England combined with having lived and travelled extensively in Africa . This is a voluntary role which he will fulfil alongside his responsibilities as CEO of Relay Trust.
We share the GSFA’s commitment to upholding the authority of Scripture, and our support for the GSFA arises from a desire to ensure a robust episcopal framework that upholds faithful proclamation of the gospel and will secure the long term theological integrity of training at every level in our partner Provinces. In the past twelve months, we have demonstrated our support for the GSFA by participating in a meeting of two Anglican Orthodox Leaders meetings in Cairo, enabling the delivery of a Bishops Formation Retreat in Uganda, and leveraging our team’s administrative expertise to facilitate the GSFA’s First Assembly in Egypt. Charles’ role as an Advisor to the Primates’ Council on Anglican Affairs is a natural next step in helping to develop the GSFA’s capabilities to support both our partner churches and others across the Communion.
