Among the many partnerships Relay Trust is privileged to support, few are as unique and vibrant as our work with La Phare in Togo. La Phare stands out as a local evangelical initiative; faithful, grounded, and deeply engaged in its community.
Supported by Dr. Charles Kenfack and led by Mesmin Kokou Tchaou, La Phare operates both as a local church and as a theological training institute with campuses in Lomé and Tsévié. Over the past few years, this work has steadily grown, training dozens of leaders who are already strengthening churches across the region. In the 2025 academic year, La Phare is supporting 22 students across both campuses.
The recent months have been full of activity. In June, the advanced students completed their academic year with a well-received course on 1 Corinthians, taught by visiting lecturer Mark DeNeui. The first-year cohort will wrap up their programme in July. Tsévié, which progresses at a different rhythm, has just started a module on the History of the Reformation. Looking ahead, the team plans to open a new training centre this autumn.
But this ministry is not without its challenges. Recent flooding in Lomé has brought a surge of malaria cases, affecting several members of the La Phare community, including family members of the leadership team. The team has also spoken honestly about the spiritual warfare they face, particularly within the church community, and they’ve asked for ongoing prayer.
While La Phare may not sit within the Anglican Communion, the heart of its mission is one we share deeply: to raise up faithful leaders, rooted in Scripture, committed to Christ, and ready to serve their communities. In this, Relay Trust is privileged to stand alongside them.
Please continue to pray for Dr. Charles, for Mesmin, and for all involved in this vital ministry. May their light continue to shine brightly in Togo.
